Their efforts paid off. This group of 30 singers attracted an audience that filled United Mountainside Church on Saturday, June 5th. At the end of the evening, the choir donated $1,000 to Seeds of Hope, thanks to ticket sales and the support of Westmount and Montreal business ads. An additional $800 was donated by the audience. These funds will help support Seeds of Hope Ministries, an organization devoted to feed, clothe, educate and house the people of Haiti.
Frédéricka Petit-Homme, artistic director of the choir, conceived a program designed to pay tribute to the people of Haiti who have borne much in the devastation of their homeland and a tribute the generous donors, who have planted the Seeds of
Hope in the face of this disaster. The program, which included modern dance and original poetry in addition to chorale pieces, was an attempt to capture the many facets of tragedy and hope, and in the process reveal much about the essence of the Haitian people.
The chorale repertoire included works by Billy Joel, Gabriel Fauré, and Felix Mendelssohn, among other composers, a program that reflects the choir’s mission to present accompanied and unaccompanied choral pieces reflecting a wide range of time periods, languages and styles.
