Brandon Frattaroli and Jessy Andric scored to propel the Barracudas to a lead against the Requins in an all-Deux Rives Atom BB matchup, but the Requins struck late in the second and third periods to earn a 2-2 draw and deny the Barracudas their first victory of the season.

The Requins halved the deficit with 1:14 left in the second period after an extended foray in the Barracudas zone. Evan Hrychowian found himself wide open in the slot and he buried a wrist shot between the pads.

The Requins attack continued into the third period and they were able to capitalize in the waning moments of the period when Jeffrey Medeiros found the back of the net through a crowded slot.

Shawn Thevenot and Maximilien Montpetit were solid in goal, keeping the scoring to a minimum.

Locals help Quebec capture bronze

A pair of West Islanders returned from Surrey, B.C. earlier this month with a little extra weight hanging from their necks after capturing the bronze medal as part of Team Quebec at the girls under-18 national hockey championship. They defeated Manitoba 2-1 to earn their spot on the podium.

Pointe Claire product Gabrielle Davidson tallied two goals and three assists to lead the team in scoring while Ste. Anne de Bellevue resident Emily Davies took a regular shift on the tournament’s stingiest defense corps. Both girls have since returned to their Midget AA Lac St. Louis Elites squad. “My favorite part of the trip was definitely being on the ice with my team,” the 15-year old Davies beamed. “The hockey was so fast and intense. It was one of the best experiences of my life!”

Royals hand Suroit Express first loss

The Bantam AA West Island Royals notched their sixth straight win by beating the Suroit Express 3-2 last Thursday. It was the first loss of the season for the Express, who were 13-0-1 entering the game.

The Royals sit atop the Lions division with a 10-5-0 record and will face the Verdun/Lasalle Cobras Saturday in Verdun.
