I have lived on a street beside the Westmount Athletic Grounds (WAG) for 20 years. In fact, I purchased my home because of the park’s peace, as did many of my neighbours.
I have used the WAG’s community garden, digging dots in the dirt with my tiny daughter, and pulling out carrots in amazement a few months later.
I have walked dogs in the WAG run. I have watched cricket games on sultry eves. I have played tennis on the courts. Children use the playground almost daily. I watch seniors as they are wheeled or walk around the grassy areas. I see joggers of all shapes and sizes as I pick up my paper at 6 a.m. I see people lying down and simply staring at the clouds, literally glorifying in the grass.
Above all, I have gloried in the green space that is the WAG, a special place for neighbours, not just from adjacent streets, but from the 4300 de Maisonneuve, from buildings on Clarke Avenue, from the schools, etc.
I am vehemently opposed to ANY building on this green space, as is my daughter, now 24.
