ADVANCE POLLS: "Demergerists are encouraged by the results of referendum advance polls held last Sunday and Monday, indicating that a significant portion of the mandatory 35 per cent participation objective demanded by Quebec was achieved. According to the results of Sunday's poll, 1,662 Westmounters voted either Yes or No at the polling station set up at Victoria Hall. Attendance at Monday's advance poll was reported to be 1,566. The first two Westmounters to vote were Elsie Flanders, 98, a resident of Westmount for 60 years, and Sid Hausner, also 98, who has lived most of her life here."

METRO TUNNEL: "Construction of the metro tunnel and station below St. Catherine street between Lansdowne and York avenues is expected to begin July 1, or as soon thereafter as the construction strike is over, the city's public works department days. The open-pit construction will mean the St. Catherine street section will be closed for up to two years."

FAREWELL TO KINGS: "The former Kings School, a 78-year-old Western avenue landmark, was slowly pushed to the ground this week to clear the site for a new apartment building. The New Rochelle Development Corp. purchased the land and school building last fall for $418,800. Construction plans have not yet been decided but a spokesman has revealed that the company may appeal to Westmount Council to rezone the property for a 12-storey apartment building. Six is the present limit."

HABS HELP OUT: "One of the top attractions to adults and sports fans at the Westmount Rotary Carnival will be members of the Canadiens hockey team to manage the 'Guess Your Weight' contest. The boys who will be present in person on the fairgrounds in Westmount near the Glen will be Elmer Lach, Floyd Curry and Doug Harvey."
