Around Westmount

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Westmount author Roch Carrier’s acclaimed book The Hockey Sweater, Carrier will be giving a reading in English and French this Saturday, Dec. 12 starting at 11 a.m. at the Avenue Art Gallery.

Topics :
The Hockey Sweater , National Film Board , Montreal Canadiens , Westmount , Montreal

The reading is part of an ongoing exhibition Hockey, Our Love Affair that features works by illustrator Sheldon Cohen, who did the illustrations for The Hockey Sweater. Cohen also illustrated the National Film Board film based on Carrier’s book, and signed cells of the film are also part of the exhibition.

Hockey, Our Love Affair coincides with the end of the centennial year of the Montreal Canadiens and includes other hockey-related works. Terry Tomalty brings community rinks to life in oil on canvas while his son Mark does the same with his camera. Artist Janet Nash brings it all together with still life drawings.

The exhibition in part benefits the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation. Hockey, Our Love Affair continues until Dec. 24. For more information, phone Colleen Gainey or Marina Cutler at 514-489-4888 or 514-867-3745 Avenue Art is located at 10 King St. at de la Commune in Old Montreal.
