Des Rochers was discussing Tuesday, July 7, the day of the first ever hidden garden tour hosted by the Westmount Horticultural Society. Over 50 people took the opportunity to visit eight of some of Westmount’s garden masterpieces, chosen in part because they are hidden from the street. The delightful mystique about theses gardens is that from the street there is no clue that behind the stately homes is garden art at its best.
From waterfalls to dense mini forests to designer flower gardens to breathtaking rock gardens, the glorious canvases have been painstakingly developed by landscape architect professionals and in some cases, as in the garden on Sunnyside, by the owners themselves.
The event was organized by co presidents Brigitta Brittain and Gabrielle Pilot and board executives Andrea Leber and Sally Cooke as part of the society’s summer program which defers from monthly meetings. In past years members have visited garden tours but this year they decided to host one themselves with a portion of the proceeds going to Centre Greene’s sponsorship for children to attend the summer day camp program at Centre Greene.
<@Ri>The Westmount Horticultural Society meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Westmount Room at the Westmount Public Library. Come early at 6:30 p.m. for coffee and cookies.

Westmount Horticultural Society Hidden Garden Tour
“It is the perfect day for a garden tour event,” said landscape architect Pierre des Rochers. “It is sunny, not hot. The colours are at their best, vivid and rich. If it was too warm the flowers would be drooping, the grass would not be as green. A perfect day.”
