Mayor Karin Marks and Councillor Kathleen Duncan recently met with merchants who have shops along Ste. Catherine Street in the eastern part of Westmount, to try and work out a plan — in conjunction with local business development agency Centre Local de Développement — to set up a merchants association and map strategy for the future. "I think Greene Avenue and Sherbrooke Street are both areas that have a certain character," Marks said, referring to two other commercial districts in Westmount where the merchants already work closely together. "The merchants on Sherbrooke often have a street fair, the merchants on Greene Avenue have had various events. And so I think the idea was to try and help (Ste. Catherine Street merchants) to develop a merchants association and then to see where there are grants available, and to work with the City and the CLD to try and move forward in improving that section."
