We're looking for the Best of Westmount!

Topics :
Best Spot for Dog Walking , Westmount , California

Do you know a great, top-secret location in Westmount that nobody else knows about? What about that perfect place to unwind for a 5 a 7 after a long day at work? And we’re sure you all have your favourite places in Westmount to go grab a cup'o joe, a great California roll, or a slice of pizza.

The Examiner wants to shine a light on some of Westmount's finest and the key to the success of this project is community participation.

Starting in two weeks, a team of intrepid taste-testers and spot-selectors will set out to determine some of the best foods to eat and places to be in Westmount, and we're looking for your submissions in eight categories.

From Atwater to St. Antoine and back up to the mountain and everything in between, we want to hear where you think the best sushi in Westmount can be found, the best breakfast in town, who the best pizza, who has the best 5 a 7, where you can find the best hot beverage, the best-kept secret location with a killer view, the best place to walk your dog, and the best sweet treat for your palate.

We will then set out with our cadre of intrepid judges and newspaper staffers (actually, they're one and the same) to painstakingly test all suggestions to ultimately come up with the Best of Westmount.

The winners of each category will be printed in The Examiner every week from Oct. 2 to Nov. 20. We will be starting off with the best pizza, so make sure to get your submissions in for that category by Sept. 26 at noon.

Submissions will be taken for any category until a week ahead of their public release date in order to give our testers time to get out and do their work!

Phone in or e-mail your suggestions - with a short explanation of why you think your choice makes the Best of Westmount - to 514-484-5610, ext. 24, or e-mail them to Examiner newspaper director Nancy Macdonald at nancy.macdonald@transcontinental.ca or Examiner editor Wayne Larsen at larsenw@transcontinental.ca.

The schedule is as follows: Best Pizza (Oct. 2), Best-Kept Secret Location (Oct. 9), Best Breakfast (Oct. 16), Best Sushi (Oct. 23) Best Spot for Dog Walking (Oct. 30) Best Sweet Treat (Nov. 6), Best 5 a 7 (Nov. 13) and Best Hot Beverage (Nov. 20).

Readers can follow along in the paper or online by visiting our website www.westmountexaminer.com and clicking on Best of Westmount.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!

How about the worst spots where dogs are walked and walkers/owners have left the poop on the street, sidewalk, grass, etc. Better yet, the Examiner should run a contest for the most creative way dog excrement is not disposed of properly: try a heap of unbagged (yes, you read that right)dog poop left in my just-emptied garbage can the morning of pickup, on a sweltering summer day. A new low even for Westmount! First Prize: a new pair of shoes.
