There was been much outpouring of generosity toward Haiti by local schools over the past two months, and Lower Canada College has proven to be no exception.
Students, staff and parents demonstrated true compassion and care as the LCC community raised a total of $17,838 for victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. The donations were raised through student-driven initiatives as well as several parents matching funds raised by their children's classrooms.
“I had confidence in our student and staff response, but I was truly shocked by the outpouring of concern demonstrated," said Headmaster Chris Shannon. "It warms my heart to know that a deep spirit of generosity and empathy is alive at LCC.”
Student leaders continue to discuss ways and have taken an active role to support the relief initiatives even further. Grade 11 students have designed a t-shirt which is being sold to raise additional funds. Students are organizing a clothing drive to donate to the Welcome Hall Mission, so that Haitians moving to Quebec as refugees will have warm clothing to withstand Quebec’s harsh winters. They hope that their efforts will help support the victims of this devastation, as well as ensure a brighter future for their country.
