To celebrate the release of the movie version of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight, the Library will host a special after-hours party for fans of the book and film. The Twilight evening, for ages 11 and up, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Westmount Room on March 28, and feature contests, discussion, refreshments, and a surprise. Although the party is free, it’s important to register ahead of time at the circulation desk or by calling 514-989-5299.

The Library promises a special night, including a chance to talk Twilight with other fans, and to compete in Twilight-themed games, in addition to the evening’s main feature — which they’re keeping under wraps for the moment. “We have some prizes that we’re going to hand out,” said Helen Jay, supervisor of circulation. “We have some questions based on the book and the movie. We’ve got the soundtrack CD, we have a cloth bag, a Twilight keychain, we have some magnets, and we’re going to get a few more things.”

Meyer’s four-book series, describing the troubled romance of a vampire and a human, have sold over 42 million copies in 37 languages. The movie version of the first book has made almost $200 million at North American box offices. The DVD of the film was released across North America on March 21. “So many teens are into it, and adults — even one of our housebound patrons requested it,” said Jay. “Even the staff here — I would say a good half of the staff has read it.” The series built naturally in popularity, Jay noted: “I feel there was no talk about the early books; the first one came out in 1997, and it was with the fourth one that the publicity came.”
