Living in Montreal and speaking English exclusively might not get you other options for escorts or many opportunities to advance your career. However, while it might not be easy, it is not impossible. You just have to know where to look and what to do.

Here are some tips for Anglos to follow in order to start getting a paying job in the city.

Do Physically Exhausting Jobs

While this kind of job will most definitely drain Anglos their energy, it is still a good place to start. Jobs like a construction worker, kitchen staff, and house cleaner may have full-on exhaustion for disadvantage, but the advantage is that most of these jobs do not require not only English, but speaking at all.

Sure, a little French would be necessary to understand instructions, but here’s to hoping that living in Montreal have taught you at least the basic French to comprehend basic instructions.

Go to Universities

Usually, English speaking universities offer job programs for their students. Anglos might be surprised by the number of jobs available in certain departments in the universities. Some may even work to their advantage.

Call center jobs certainly require good English speaking skills. If you’re skilled at computers, jobs in IT departments may be good for you. Your English speaking skills, combined with your ability to communicate with people, might earn you a spot in the Human Resources department. Even a job in the Food Preparation department may be good for you. Try going to universities and see what jobs are open.

Build Connections

Sometimes, before landing an actual job, a huge stepping stone would be volunteering. Although that would mean that you won’t get paid, it’s still worth your time. Of course, the best part of that is you get to help those in need. However, it’s not just charity for others. The advantage is that you get to build connections. Think of it as a demonstration of your skills.

Once people see what you’re capable of, because of course, you’ll do your very best at every opportunity, they will remember you. These connections might start recommending jobs to you, or they’ll refer you to jobs. Some might even hire you right there and then.

Don’t Be Picky and Keep Being Active

The job offered or given to you may not be your dream job, but it is a job nonetheless. Just go for it; if anything, it will be added to your experience and knowledge. That is not to say that you should jump at literally every opportunity, like the shady advertisements you may see in Backpage or other Backpage alternatives. As long as the job is decent, just go for it.

Check Out Westmount

Westmount is an island suburb that has an English-speaking community. However, you will need to actually go there and apply in person as most of the jobs there are in small stores which don’t generally post ads on the Internet.

As you can see, it’s not impossible for Anglos to get hired and start working in Montreal. However, it is still beneficial for you to learn their language. There’s no harm in it, and the more you know, the better.
